Training programs offered by InterCounty Childcare Connection are based upon available funding and identified resources. ICCC strives to offer high quality evidence-based training identified to meet the needs of caregivers and educators in our region, and aligned with best practices of the child care industry. Orientation to the Business of Childcare — An overview of the business of childcare from developing and marketing your program to ensuring your program's success. This workshop provides you with the information, skills and resources covering topics such as zoning, insurance, regulation, advertising, interviewing, policies, rates, record-keeping and tax preparation. Workshop content is suitable for both new and experienced providers, offering handouts, sample forms and numerous resources to support quality childcare. This workshop can be tailored to meet your specific needs from exploration and startup to quality assessment and improvement. (3 hours) $20 per person/scheduled monthly.

CPR/FA Certification — Two year Certification in Adult/Infant/Child CPR and First Aid through American Heart Association. Classes can be tailored to meet the needs of child care professionals or other occupations. We can accommodate single or group classes at your site, at a community site or our office. ONLINE RECERTIFICATION COURSEWORK NOW AVAILABLE! Meets licensing requirements. (hours vary) $50--95 per person
NEW Partnership with RCC offering Early Care and Education Certificates — ICCC and Rappahannock Community College Workforce Development have worked collaboratively to offer a new certificate program to professionals working in Early Care and Education. This 1-8 course program offers caregivers/educators Saturday classes including foundational training aligned with the statewide Early Childhood Milestones and Competencies for Early Childhood Professionals developed by the Governor's Early Childhood Initiative. Medication Administration Training (MAT) Certification — ICCC works with contractors certified to deliver MAT training to ensure our local area has opportunities to obtain the required training to administer medications in a child care setting. Includes both skills and knowledge components and covers 17 different medical needs. Certification lasts three years; meets licensing requirements. (Approx. 8 hours) $100/scheduled quarterly/maintains a waiting list.

*NEW*: Bloodborne Pathogens (Online) -- Online training approved by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Council of Emergency Physicians is designed to teach health care professionals and laypersons the knowledge needed to meet OSHA and other national safety and health organizations’ requirements for bloodborne pathogens and infection prevention training. AAOS/ACEP Emergency Care & Safety Institute (ECSI) (2 hours/1.5 CEU – ACEP/AMA/CECBEMS) $25
Health and Safety Tool Kit — Focusing on prevention and prepared, this workshop offers staff an opportunity to assess their knowledge and skills through a fun and competitive Jeopardy game, and introduces providers to multiple resources to expand their health and safety education, and to improve policies and procedures in their programs to decrease risk and increase quality of care. (2-3 hour training) $35 per person/scheduled monthly.
Healthy Sleep Initiative — Through a collaborative grant sponsored by VACCRRN, and offered by the Virginia Dept of Health, ICCC is one of seven programs across the state offering this research based program helping caregivers increase their knowledge and skills to decrease the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Includes a parent component. (1-2 hour training) $25 per person/scheduled quarterly.
Food Friends and Mighty Moves — Partnering with Virginia Cooperative Extension's Family and Consumer Science division, this research based program has been piloted throughout our region. Designed to promote nutrition and exercise, these user-friendly kits are implemented in 12 week sessions in 3-4 year old classrooms and include activities, storybooks, exercise and tasting sessions which support children learning to try new foods and promoting physical exercise. Parent components are included. (hours vary)
Advanced Business Practices in Family Child Care — Offers professionals an in depth look at policies and procedures which promote efficient and quality business practices, including liability insurance, advanced record keeping skills, tax preparation and legal support. (3-6 hours) $35 per person/scheduled annually
Partnering With Parents: Building Circles, Breaking Cycles — A research-based prevention curriculum offering child care professionals knowledge and skills in developing effective relationships with parents/children, to strengthen families, to decrease risks of abuse, and to increase protective factors which prevent child abuse/neglect. Curriculum includes 10 modules offering 80 hours of training, including sections for directors addressing staff support and building effective relationship based organizations. ICCC brings this innovative prevention curriculum to our area through a collaborative effort of four different local agencies and is one of five sites in Virginia with certification to train using Partnering with Parents, a research based prevention curriculum by Zero to Three, a nationally known organization supporting early childhood development. Our goal is to reduce the risk of abuse and neglect by offering participants valuable knowledge about positive intervention strategies in working with children and supporting families in meeting their needs. (4-8 hour modules can be offered in units or series). Call for more information.
Promoting Social and Emotional Competency — Offer caregivers and educators foundational knowledge in social and emotional development of preschoolers, as well as valuable skills in providing a nurturing and structured environment which supports school readiness. Course includes pro-active strategies to assist children in meeting the milestones of social and emotional development as well as helpful interventions/tools to meet the needs of children with special challenges. This is a hands-on interactive evidence-based workshop authored by the Center on the Social Emotional Foundations for Early Learning. Includes materials, handouts and Continuing Education Units. (5 hour modules offered in units or in series) Call for more information.
Daily Healthy Observation — An overview of the health standards and policies which should guide operating procedures for child care programs. Training includes: signs and symptoms of illness, conducting a daily health observation/check, exclusion policies, disease prevention practices, common childhood illnesses, immunizations and standard precautions. Certificate awarded through certified Health and Safety Educator. Meets licensing standards. (2 hours) $25/person; Call to request group training
Resource Lending Library — Learn about child development and how to utilize our Resource Lending Library to support your program components. This workshop includes an overview of the policies and procedures for utilizing our Resource Lending Libraries, located in five community libraries throughout the region, reviews the contents of the nine theme curriculum boxes, and assists participants implement suggested guides for implementation in either a home or classroom environment. (1-4 hours) $15-25 per person
