![]() Woman's Club of King & Queen The Woman's Club of King & Queen County was organized in 1931 and federated in 1932. We are a civic/community service organization for women and an affiliate of the Virginia and General Federations of Women's Clubs. General membership meetings are held at our Club House on Allen Circle in the Courthouse Green area at 2:00 p.m. the third Thursday after the first Monday of each month, September to April. In May we have our annual luncheon at a local restaurant where on alternating years, we have installation of officers. Each month is assigned to a different department to arrange for planning the programs. (See Calendar of Events for a complete listing of programs.) Contacts:Membership

804-785-9504; Women living, working or with an interest in King & Queen County are invited to join the Woman's Club of King & Queen County. Members are asked to participate in all fund raising events and encouraged to attend as many monthly meetings and other club activities as possible. Each monthly meeting offers programs featuring special guest speakers and refreshments to attending members and guests. All club members are assigned to participate on a hostess committee at least one month per year. Annual membership dues of $36.00 per year are payable in September. Dinners:
WCKQ prepares and serves the Ruritan Club dinner four meetings per
year. Proceeds are part of club fundraising. Governor’s Mansion Tours: The Club is currently looking for volunteers to be trained and to represent the club by offering tours at the Governor’s Mansion. Smorgasbord Dinner: The first Saturday of May. Plant
Sales:
Plants are sold at the Smorgasbord in May; again in the Fall,
and poinsettias sold at Christmas. All proceeds are for general
fundraising project. Art
Show: Works
of art are submitted by adults in the community and children from all
grades in King & Queen County schools. These are
displayed and judged on the third week of January. The
community is invited to come to the clubhouse to view the art.
Refreshments are served. At the 2005 Arts & Craft Show,
there
were154 pieces of art submitted for judging. Charles Lanier from the
high school and Jonathan Walsh, art teacher from the elementary
schools, as well as Amy Schaut from Aylett
Country Day School were instrumental in providing the awesome exhibit
of
talent and creativity. There were 4
pieces that received Best
in Show. Forty
winning items will be sent on to the Lee District Women's Club
Art Show, February 26, 2005. A very
special portrait was contributed for display by Valerie
Prince. The portrait of Valerie's son
was painted by Rhoda MacCullum 26 years ago. In addition to craft items submitted only for display, members of the Woman's Club submitted six craft items to be judged. All six pieces received blue ribbons and will be sent on to the Lee District Art Show. Christmas Project & Program: Members and quests are invited to an evening of music and dining to celebrate the holidays. Gifts of lap quilts and items of clothing are brought to the Christmas party to be donated to the DSS to be distributed to local nursing homes and shut-ins. The Woman's Club also makes an annual donation to the King & Queen Ministries at Christmas. Quilting Guild: The King & Queen Quilting Guild, led by Beth Hayes, meets every Friday at Beth's quilting studio. Interested participants are welcome to come join the fun. club provided and
served refreshments at the Dr. Seuss Birthday Party at the King
& Queen County library, March 11, 2005.
